School curriculum

Why choose us?

Why choose Rangitaiki Independent School for your child’s junior secondary education?

We provide a comprehensive core NZ curriculum for Year 9 and 10 students.

We can guarantee the physical and emotional safety of your child.

Drugs or other substances are not an issue in our environment.

It is very difficult for large schools to completely prevent drugs and other substances from entering the school.

Current research shows that those who use marijuana before the age of 15 are more likely to use hard drugs later.

The New Zealand Curriculum, with an emphasis on Literacy and Numeracy, is taught at all levels.

The New Zealand Curriculum is delivered in a way that engages and challenges every student.   Teachers focus on the learning needs of their students, and base their  learning programmes on these needs.  Excellent numeracy and literacy programmes under pin all learning.

Each term a school wide theme is discussed and set by staff,  teachers then plan according to their students’ learning. The theme is integrated in the  teaching and learning for all curriculum areas: English, Mathematics, Science, Health and PE, Social Studies, The Arts, Technology.

Individual students are catered for within their classroom, and the wider school.   Classes are flexible to meet the needs of students. For example, students operating at a higher level in maths will join the class operating at that level.

Local events and national celebrations are integrated into programmes whenever it is relevant to our students learning.
