Rangitaiki Independent School offers a wide range of music opportunities - instrument tuition, singing, productions, bands, choirs, and specialist groups. This year a Concert Band has been started which uses the American Band System to teach children to play a variety of instruments and learn to read music. The instruments we have involved this year are Trombone, Cornet, Saxophone, Clarinet, Flute, Bass Guitar, and Percussion (Drumming). Twenty-four students have small group lessons on their own instrument and get together once a week for band practice. It is an exciting programme to be a part of and the band will soon be holding concerts and entering competitions designed for Concert and Symphonic Bands. Later in the year, rock bands will be formed where the children can participate in modern music using modern instruments and equipment. Also they will explore modern learning techniques through use of the internet. The annual Production is always a highlight of any school year and this year will be no exception. Term 4, 2009 was when our budding actors, actresses, soloists and singers got into action. 2009’s Production was accompanied by live musicians (but only if they are not on stage that is!)
