The New Zealand Curriculum is taught at all levels with an emphasis on Literacy and Numeracy.
EOTC Education outside the classroom is a vital and stimulating part of the school programme. Children are introduced to the challenges of the environment, they are taught the skills for coping with the outdoors, developing further strengths and abilities and increasing self-esteem.
School camps and day trips ensure that children grow to value the uniqueness of New Zealand’s natural heritage and to understand the need for conservation. All Education Outside the Classroom is closely linked with the curriculum.
The Arts The Arts are a major component of learning at Rangitaiki Independent School. Children are exposed to all areas: · Arts Intensive Week: Arts Intensive Week is a very exciting week of the year. Children leave their regular class work for a week and participate in an arts rotation where they create some absolutely fabulous results. Until now Arts week has comprised mainly of visual art (clay mugs and boots, led-light glass creations, pastels, culturally-based creations, artist studies and computer animation and creation). This year Art week will combine all art strands. · Specialist Teachers: Rangitaiki Independent School regularly invites specialist artists to come and share their knowledge with the students. We always have fabulous results! · Music Programme: Many of our students are involved in the concert band with Alison. Students can choose to learn trombone, cornet, saxophone, clarinet, flute, drums and bass guitar, and have lessons with Alison at school. On Thursday afternoons all the instrumentalists get together in their Concert Band and practice their fantastic music. We also have an awesome Rock Band! |

This is a very prestigious interschool competition, hosted each year by a local school. Participants train hard to win the highly coveted prize of Top School. Our last production – Little Stars – took place in 2009 and was a take on the popular idol shows on television at the moment. · Workshops: Students often attend workshops for all areas of the arts, especially dance and drama. We frequently have visitors who visit to teach us about these areas and allow us to interact with them as they perform. |
